They do know what they do!
By Nilene Foxworth
IT is difficult to understand why a handful of European members of the
religious group now visiting Zimbabwe, known as the Europe and African
Reconciliation Church, find it necessary to repent for the sins of their
European colonisers, who not only took the land from the indigenous
people, but also took the lives of millions of indigenous Africans and
African descendants who were shipped away from their homeland and
treated like cattle being sold on the auction blocks of the Western world.
How can anyone expect African people to forgive them, when the holocaust
still continues today? I have watched the Western world try to stagnate
Zimbabwe since independence in 1980, and have continued different
destabilisation tactics until today ? with high interest rates,
inflation, sanctions, meddling in internal affairs, and the list goes on
and on.
Blacks must never forget that Europeans came in a very deceitful
religious manner (David Livingstone), who immediately began to rename
African special and sacred places after his queen Victoria. He was told
the indigenous name for the Mosi oa Tunya falls, but he ignored and
disrespected the indigenous terminology to appease his queen. When his
so-called religious exploration was concluded, the bullets of Cecil John
Rhodes took over. Most of our people are very religious and spiritual;
however, there is a very thin line between white illustrated Bibles and
bullets of white interests.
The greatest strength of the colonisers and slave masters has been their
ability to keep people of colour divided, ignorant and insensitive to
important issues and problems of their own people. The brainwashing is
so serious that many of our people believe that white problems are also
our problems and that we should assist Europeans in their worldwide
greed for power and wealth. Whites come with many different faces:
smiling faces and religious faces, humanitarian faces; even academic
faces, but usually a face to divert our progress as a people and/or
neutralise our progressive goals. Blacks must study the faces well, but
not always listen to what comes out of the mouth of the face -- but
study what they systematically do.
Serious Black people of today, who have their indigenous African people
at heart, would suggest that such religious groups as the European
African Reconciliation group, go deal with the minds of their white
powerful economic giants of this world, who became wealthy from the free
slave labour and rich minerals of our homeland. They must tell them to
pay us for our great loss. Yes, they have a large debt to pay as they
spend billions and billions of dollars on wars worldwide. So, why should
Blacks forgive them when they continue such acts of evil?
Our people are in the middle of a serious struggle to eradicate poverty
and Aids ? both created by colonisers and their scientist maniacs to
imprison the Black male and control our Black population growth. Asking
Black people to forgive them for their sins is the most asinine request
in history -- also an insult on our intelligence and integrity. When one
sins, he or she must ask God to forgive them.
The third definition for the term "reconcile" in Webster?s New
Collegiate Dictionary means to cause to submit to or accept something
unpleasant. Blacks have been submitting to unpleasant things for many
centuries. How many centuries must Blacks continue to forgive White
people for their sins? Our religious leaders have forgiven them over and
over again -- in the name of Jesus. Since childhood, I have heard them
say: "Father forgive them for they know not what they do". Truth of the
matter is: "They do know what they do! They distorted our history and
our culture, and brainwashed our people to believe that everything black
was negative and ugly, and until this day most educators refuse to teach
attributes of the melanin factor in genetics/biology classes.
Thousands of black people have fought in the white man?s wars, and died
at a very young and tender age, knowing very little about the wars
created in the interest of the whites themselves. They have never kept
an agreement when it comes to the land issue. When African-Americans
were freed from the ruthless system of slavery, we were promised 40
acres of land and a mule. The promise was never fulfilled. Many
African-Americans today are requesting reparations for slavery, which
was a heartless system of free labour, plus 400 years of unfair and
racist intolerance. Today many indigenous people worldwide are fighting
for their land, because land is the most precious thing a person can
have. A very good example is Zimbabwe -- a very strong Black people who
fought for their land -- and won! Then successfully completed its Land
Reform Programme as of 2005.
It is a fact that Blacks are living in poverty around the world, and are
still victims of European subjugation, hate, lynching and double
standards. Racism in America is still overt, with thousands of Hurricane
Katrina victims still homeless and devastated, as Black leaders continue
to expose the evils of the American system, which allowed thousands of
Black people to die due to little concern and negligence, according to
many Black leaders struggling for equality and justice in the so-called
most powerful country in the world.
Recently, a television producer and journalist named Tavis Smiley
organised a historical forum called "State of Black America". The forum
was made up of articulate and sensitive African-American scholars, who
addressed issues dealing with the historical and contemporary state of
Black America. Many statistics on the imbalances of black and white
conditions were indeed shocking. Some conditions have not changed since
1865. One of the most disgusting imbalances was the median net worth of
US$5 900 for blacks and US$88 650 for whites. It is a pity that
television, movies, entertainment and sports have concealed the real
condition of African-Americans, 32 percent of whom have a zero or
negative net worth.
Both Harry Belafonte and Louis Farrakhan advocated the dire need for
African-Americans to become global -- something I tried to share in my
books "Bury Me in Africa" and "African Pride". I have always said that
our people must stop appeasing themselves with the colonial master?s
false promise and fragmented forms of freedom and independence in the
name of an integrated melting pot. We must keep our eyes focused on our
future generations -- never to toss them to the enemy for any reason.
